X Factor has come under increasing pressure as previous contestants have had a pop at the use of autotune on the show.
The scandal broke yesterday as the show officially admitted post production touch ups of the contestants’ voices. Daniel Evans, who reached the live shows in 2008 launched a savage attack via Twitter. He raved:
“I am big campaigner against auto-tune in the music industry, it’s all over the charts but to hear it on a so-called live show is just plain sad…..It’s like an epidemic, and I won’t be watching again. Sad times for real music fans. I used to defend the X Factor against critics who say it’s a joke and not about real music, now there is no defence against this, it is a joke.”
Ethan Boroian who got to the judges’ houses last year also commented “I will probably lose followers saying this but I’m more into Must Be The Music than X Factor right now. At least it’s not autotuned.”
At the same time Jamie Cullum has been letting his thoughts known- “”It’s this whole perception of what you think music’sĀ supposed to be. I mean I don’t personally think it’s always about singing perfectly in tune. I think you listen to all the great recordings of all time, you know, Bob Dylan doesn’t always sing in tune but he sounds like himself.”
