There was a period in 2008 when every copy of NME was packed with fawning praise for Foals. And that’s where the major problem lies with the band – it’s hard to get past the scenester hype and pretension.
Their new album has been compared by NME to The Cure, TomTomClub, Ladysmith, Osibisa, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers of The Police. It’s like wandering into the kitchen at a house party to find a group of 16 year old haircuts trying to outdo each other with music references.
Antidotes most definitely had a couple of good songs, but the rest of the album fell far short and was so sammey that it became hard to figure out when a track had changed to the next.
This Orient, a release from their new album, seems to be falling into this second category with the vocals come coming to a dirge. Sorry to point this out – but that emperor isn’t wearing any clothes.
