Strictly Come Dancing promised their fans a glittering array of celebrities being put through their paces in 2010, however it seems they may have overestimated their star appeal. The increasingly desperate show is resorting to those that the fickle mistress of fame has long since forgotten, and who view the popular primetime show as the perfect opportunity to boost their profile.

However despite Patsy Kensit and Gavin Henson falling squarely into this category, those connected to the show are more excited about the capture of former Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams:

A source said “Michelle is a great booking for us – as she’s an amazing dancer and extremely glamorous. We said that we were aiming big this year – and we hope fans of the show will realize that with a booking like her.”

With Michelle’s diary looking emptier than ever, I’d suggest that the show will have to aim even bigger if it is going to silence the cynics. With X Factor racking up 11.1 million viewers on its first night (its biggest ever for an opening), there’s pressure on the shows producers.
