The credit crunch could be a great thing for music as it suggests that only the strongest will survive. That will mean that they either have to ooze talent, or be a great big profit making machine, and in some cases both could apply. In theory a lot of the shit that we are exposed to will be filtered out of the system, which can be no bad thing in my book. On top of that it could bring an end to all the copycat bandwagon bands being signed on the back of another artist’s success.

The Paddingtons are one such band who unfortunately entered our lives during the aftermath of The Libertines back in 2005. Pete Doherty only had to mention their name and they were granted an easy path to success, although they swiftly failed to live up to the hype. They have now returned with their second studio album ‘No Mundane Options’ which they had to self-release. After hearing it I think they should have taken the hint that no one was interested and called it a day, there are always plenty of shelves to stack.

Musically the songs are mediocre at best, and lyrically it gets even worse. A good few of the tracks resort to throwing in a “hey” and “wa-wa-woo” just to fill the gaps. One of the catchier numbers on the album is called ‘Sticky Fingers’, but even then it all sounds strangely familiar. I can almost hear the original but it is refusing to identify itself. This makes me believe that I have blocked it out for a reason, or on the other hand it could be a classic and I am letting my opinion stick the boot in.

The sharp amongst you may have noticed that I don’t rate this album very highly. To sum it up I would say a lot of the record sounds like McFly at their very best, which in anyone’s book means a bag of shite.
