Formed in 1999, Metronomy are set to release their second album after a long time off the radar. Now incorporating the original backing group the three piece electro band have been touring to promote ‘Nights Out’.

The new album was originally planned to work as an album, but this doesn’t really seem to work too well. All in all, the album is a bit dull. There really isn’t too much new or exciting about it. The noises aren’t as innovative as Crystal Castles and the tunes aren’t as catchy as Late of the Pier. A couple of songs stand out but as a concept album this doesn’t work.

The record opens with ‘Nights Intro’ which is a slow moving, almost medieval, start to the album. Thankfully it does pick up with the second track. This is more upbeat and is better suited to dancing. However the song doesn’t seem to go anywhere. This is apparent throughout the whole album; lots of the tracks are very repetitive and forgettable. Song after song goes by and before you realise you are half way through the album and don’t remember any of it!

‘On The Motorway’ is the first track that stands out in the album. Perfect for a party or to get a crowd going in a gig, but still not really suited to just listening on a CD. While the fast beats make your head nod and feet tap the song is still too repetitive to listen to!

A few more forgettable tracks later and finally! ‘A Thing For Me’ is the first song that works well. It has a good beat, a good tune and some lyrics! It can be danced to, sung to and most importantly listened to!

The album remains a lot more lyrical from here on, but the songs start to get more dull and repetitive once more. It is a shame, this album could have been so good. All the ingredients were there but the oven was set at the wrong temperature.

  1. well, your wrong.

  2. I think someone needs to go to english classes. Have you ever written a review before? “The new album was originally planned to work as an album” makes no sense what so ever
