Lily Allen Smile? Not if you’re Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton thrives on being…well…a bit of a nob. It was this time last year when he got hit by Will.i.am after saying some fairly provocative statements about Fergy. This he milked for all it was worth afterwards – his faux over the top outrage belying the fact that he treats such things as an occupational hazard.

And now he’s got into a war with Lily Allen – herself prone to straight talking. It began with Perez posting a tongue in cheek picture of Lily at a football match getting drunk next to her grandfather. He commented:”she must have gotten waaaaaaasted during the match”.

Lily was not happy – she admitted she got drunk and added ‘that guy is a such a woman hating retard, there are pictures of Hugh Grant at the same game sipping pints, he didn’t publish those though” and declared “Perez Hilton thinks I am a vagina. I think he wants one of his own”.

She later stated she was not being homophobic – a smart move to shut down anyone who gets the wrong end of the stick.

Perez Reply did nothing but fan the flames…..’I could use a vagina. I’ve already got two assholes and shit just won’t stop coming out of my mouth! We’re a lot alike!’

This row has all the ingredients to rumble on for months….

Christina Aguilera Singles Leaked from Bionic

Christina Aguilera leaks have been coming thick and fast. First we had the singles “Not Myself Tonight” and “Woohoo”, but now three mores are floating about, including the title track of her new album.

Bionic is a by far the leader of these tracks, and it sure to be a hit – packed with radio hooks and will surely drive up sales for the album long term.After a bit of a break, she’s showing she’s still got it.

Sony Awards for Radio Broadcasting – Chris Moyles Beaten by Scott Mills

BBC6 Music picked up two awards at the Sony Awards last night – one Rising Star Award for Jarvis Cocker, while Adam and Joe won best Comedy. In conjunction with its recently announced muchly increased year on year listening figures, this is sure to add to calls to save the station

Elsewhere Scott Mills managed to beat Chris Moyles to win the, cough, Personality of the Year award. While Bono, who seems bent on winning every music related awards ever, won Best Music Special.

Kele Okereke, Tenderoni

While we await Kele’s first solo album away from Bloc Party, here’s the first single to be released; Tenderoni.

The release is packed full of synth and suggests he will be going in a bit more of an electro direction. In a press release Kele explained:

“I plugged in synths with no idea what they would do. It was completely back to the drawing board. It was exciting and terrifying…The key for the sound of the record was to take things as harsh and as physical as I could make them. These are the sounds that make me happiest in the world.”

The first release is harsh and physical, and if The Boxer lives up to this standard it’ll definitely allow him to stamp his mark successfully as a solo artist. The only annoying thing about the record is it’s sometimes strangely reminiscent of Wiley’s “Wearing My Rolex”……try listening without thinking the words “usually bubble”.

Ke$ha and Kanye West get the Cartoon Treatment

You know you’re hitting the big time when The Simpsons send you up – so Ke$sha must be over the moon that “Tik Tok” has been featured on the opening of a music dedicated episode of the show.

And she’s not the only one. Kanye West took on Cleveland Jr. in The Cleveland show – it was only a matter of time before the family guy creators parodied him again. My favourite lyric has to be “I’m the black Zac Effron”

Britney Spears Telephone Demo Leak Here

So – it’s all a bit smoke and mirrors – but it has been suggested Britney Spears originally demoed Lady Gaga’s Telephone.

Rodney Jerkins who produced the song claimed last year that he and GaGa had written a song from Spears’ Circus LP but it never quite made it to the final cut. Last year he tweeted:

Me and Lady Gaga wrote a smash for Britney called ‘Telephone’ the label didnt out it on the lp. It should be out right now!!! Its too hot!!!

and then more recently:

Im not gonna leak it becuz i thought about it, it would be disrespectful to Britney. She didnt wanted to come out, I respect that

BBC 6 Music Sees Huge Increase in Listeners

Online listening figures from Rajar show that BBC 6 Music’s audience has grown by 50% year on year, clearly rebutting arguments it is not good value for money, which were invoked to justify it’s proposed scrapping earlier this year. You can still sign the petition to save the station here.

Further argument is bound to be caused by the fact the station took over Radio 3 in terms of online listeners. The classical music station fell to 97,000 listeners in March, while Radio 6 enjoyed 134,000 visitors and also totted up twice as many live listening hours. This throws strangeness of the decision to pick BBC 6 for the chop is into full light. This is especially true given that BBC 3 has a rough alternative in Classic FM, where as BBC 6, championing independent music and new bands has, almost by definition, no large commercial alternative.

Mark Thomson, the head-honcho at the BBC said the station was expensive “given it’s relatively small audience” – these figures show that point now holds no water.

Meanwhile the Asian Network, which is also threatened, put in a 33% increase. Unions have threatened strike action if redundancies are to be made as part of the strategic review – and let’s face it, if this is a cost saving exercise then that is a virtual certainty. This is bound to gain much public support and reignite the campaign to save the stations. It seems the fight is far from over.

According to research by Nokia, Shakira has totted up more music downloads in the last year than any other Latino artist.

What is remarkable is that in Germany, Shakira makes up all ten of the most popular in Germany, while in Austria and the UK the Columbian star accounts for nine out of the ten. Though Shakira is doing her best as an ambassador for South American music, the fact that most of the artists will seem obscure shows the genre is not quite managing to penetrate internationally, despite a huge fan base, in the same way as perhaps British or American music is. This is no doubt due to language – but the popularity of She Wolf has shown this is a barrier that can be overcome.
