Passionate, emotional and intense… three words that describe four piece rock/indie band, Lovelikefire. The first thing that hits you is lead singer, Ann Yu’s vocals – both haunting and beautiful.
Lovelikefire are from San Francisco, although you probably wouldn’t have guessed, and they write some quality songs. Their single William kicks off the album, with a mid 90’s feel to their music, then there’s Signs, in which the rhythm section sound most effective as it builds up throughout the song. They’re a cracking good band with a fantastic new album, which will hopefully do well with the public.
The transition between mellow and more powerful songs is a running theme, although some tracks do sound similar to each other. My Left Eye is a mellow one, which is then followed by Far From Home, containing a massive drum and guitar section. Ann Yu almost sounds angry towards the end of the record, so although it makes you wonder if she’s run out of creative juices, it also make the album finish with a bang of anthems and ballads.
Each song tells a story, and throw in some melodies, chord progressions and creativity and you have Tear Ourselves Away, which describes how you won’t be able to tear yourself away from this album.
