Dev Hynes, aka Lightspeed Champion, has this week launched a brand spanking new website, from which you can hear a preview of his upcoming second album.

Normally we wouldn’t cover such trivialities as a new website for a D-list, although brilliant, indie starlet, but the PR bumf throws an unintentional rib-tickler.

It says: “Dev Hynes, aka Lightspeed Champion, has unveiled a brand new, completely interactive website, where members to the site can create a profile, load up images and videos and talk to fellow Lightspeed Champion fans.”

So just like MySpace, then, where Hynes could formerly be found blogging away night and day. Suspiciously, all of his old entries have been deleted.

Hynes himself follows this up with his debut post on the new site, saying: “Can you actually believe it? I have a new website. One in which I can post shocking quality mp3′s, Photography, shitty youtube videos and moan about photo developing places ( damn you wallgreens pharmacy!!! ).”

It’s all very odd. The most surprising thing is that Hynes didn’t have a website before. This is the 21st century, y’know, everyone has their own website.

Anyway, signing up to the new site gets you a free MP3 of a new song, titled Heavy Purple. It’s a dark, downbeat ditty, completely at odds to his previous Lightspeed recordings.

But it’s certainly piqued our interest in the forthcoming album, which should land this autumn.
