You’ll see our top 10 soon enough, but what are your current top 10 albums of 2008 (the proper year, not our mismatched one)?

I think you’ve got to have the likes of Last Shadow Puppets, Elbow, Duffy (sorry!) and maybe Metallica in there, but I’d love to know what everyone else thinks. Bit of Vampire Weekend, maybe? Or possibly Ra Ra Riot?

Take That’s isn’t out yet, so sadly cannot be included.

  3. Ok in my defence this is a top 50 and it gets a bit weird towards the end….It is an album that justifies it’s 48th place :)

  4. I knew i’d jumped the gun with my suggestions. Would have to have portishead, nick cave and british sea power in there. I do like the Last Shadow Puppets record but does anyone else feel it gets a bit monotonous by the end? Black Keys, Ra Ra Riot, Glasvegas and Noah and The Whale get definite mentions from me also

  5. I’m way too embarrassed to reveal my top 10 album list of this year because it involves a certain band that I really shouldn’t like but I really *really* do… Wouldn’t want my credibility to go out the window over something like this…

I know what you’re thinking. ‘What credibility?’ Fair point!!

    In no particular order:

. Das Pop - Das Pop
. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
. Funeral for a Friend - Memory and Humanity
. Def Leppard - Songs from the Sparkle Lounge
    . Jonas Brothers - A Little Bit Longer (……..*hangs head in shame*……)
    . McFly - RadioACTIVE (I can’t apologise for this, it’s flippin’ brilliant!)
. The Script - The Script
    . Feeder - Silent Cry
. Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement
. Nathan Persad - Since 1978 (buy it, it was out on Monday, it’s fabulous. I wrote the sleevenotes!!)

  6. My record-buying budget has been taken up by older releases this year, but among the newer things I managed to get, two stand out:

Max Tundra: Parallax Error Beheads You.
Extremely tuneful and inventive, life-affirming but oddly melancholy, this is one to keep going back to- I’m still discovering new things in it after more than a month (and countless listens).

Men Diamler: Sea Shanties For The Far Inland.
I reckon he’s one of the best lyricists we’ve got at the moment, these songs are so sad, but funny too. They feel like they should have been around for centuries.

  7. - Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes
    - Bon Iver- For Emma, Forever Ago
    - The Fireman, Electric Arguments
    - TV on the Radio, Dear Science
    - Vampire Weekend, Vampire Weekend
    - Los Campesinos!, Hold on Now, Youngster
    - AC/DC, Black Ice
    - Blitzen Trapper, Furr
    - Okkervil River, The Stand Ins
    - Apollo Sunshine, Shall Noise Upon

  8. 1 Glasvegas
    2 Elbow
    3 Los Campesinos!
    4 Death Cab
    5 Blood Red Shoes
    6 Kings of Leon
    7 Mystery Jets
    8 The Research
    9 Scarlett Johansson
    10 Black Kids

    Bosh!
