To coincide with Records Days Blur have given us their first track since 2003. Just a thousand copies were released and this morning some early birds queuing up at London’s Rough Trade East were lucky enough to get a free copy.
Don’t fret though if you’ve been nursing a hangover rather than hot footing it down to Brick Lane (I stumbled over about 2pm) as it’s just been tweeted by Parlophone:
Blur to release ‘Fool’s Day’ as a free download via their website http://blur.co.uk from midnight.
And if you can’t wait even that long….you can listen to it now below. It starts with a simple factual account of Damon Albarn’s life in London, recording his activities without passing judgement. There’s no detail too dreary or minute left. These observations are then given meat with Damon’s analysis of modern life with statements like “civil war is what we’re all born into”. The song rounds off by letting Graham do his thing.
Frankly, we think it’s brilliant. Let’s hope the declaration on the track “a love of all sweet music, we just can’t let go” indicates there is much more to come.
