It’s an exciting time annually for new music, as lists of what to watch for in the next 12 months start to emerge. None are quite as important in the mainstream as the Beeb’s, typically combining the well known with the genuine underground and representing a pretty wide range of “new” music.
This year’s list is no different, and alongside the Drums, Everything Everything and Marina And The Diamonds you’ll find Owl City, Hurts and Devlin. The list spreads from bubblegum pop (Daisy Dares You) to rap (Giggs) via soul (Rox), with electronica also represented fairly well through the aforementioned Everything Everything, Delphic and Gold Panda.
So, that longlist in full:
- Daisy Dares You
- Delphic
- Devlin
- The Drums
- Everything Everything
- Giggs
- Gold Panda
- Ellie Goulding
- Hurts
- Joy Orbison
- Marina And The Diamonds
- Owl City
- Rox
- Stornoway
- Two Door Cinema Club
All worthy winners, I’m sure you’ll agree. With the exception of Daisy Dares You who appears to have made it onto the list as a joke. For us, it’s between Everything Everything, Delphic and Two Door Cinema Club – but we’ve been wrong before.

If thats the sound of 2010 it’s going to be a long old year!!
Daisy Dares You, Marina And The Diamonds and Two Door Cinema Club are at best average..the rest of that list is pretty damn woeful in my humble opinion!

It has to be The Drums, hands down. Best new sound for ages.
