Annie Lovell is an unknown quantity; trained as a classical and opera singer and a history of west end stage performances her first single marks a step into new territory.

I Won’t Cry is an anthem for the upbeat, a cold shoulder to adversity, a steeled resolve to make the most of every situation.

Whilst the single is unashamedly poppy it becomes obvious where Annie’s roots lie, Lovell possesses a voice that has the raw power of an unbridled horse and twice the beauty. Lovell’s delivers her message not only with great clarity but also with striking sentiment.

From behind the melodic tinkering of ivory emerges a soaring vocal that is all at once delicate, urgent, exuberant and defiant. The track builds, and is driven by a punchy rhythm and layered backing that reflects the fact Lovell is a young woman who refuses to be burdened by the weight of the world.

Touched the hand of Mike Crossey, of Arctic Monkeys, The Enemy and Razorlight notoriety, the single offers production so well polished you can see your face in it. The result is a rousing sound and is so full of grandeur that it would sit well on an American drama or as a soundtrack to the highlights of an epic sporting encounter.

Whilst the musical elite may he scoff that the sound is too commercial, however the extraordinary talent and honest song writing of Lovell cannot be doubted and are ultimately what shine through. If the debut is anything to go by I Won’t Cry marks Annie Lovell as an artist to look out for.
